Commissions - with a twist…

... a commission is always exciting, but it does come with risk for both the artist and the customer. So for that reason, I only take payment at the end of the process, and only if we both love the painting: you only pay if we both love the result.

The steps to a successful commission

It might be a master copy or it might be from a photograph or it might be from life but the first step is to agree the composition. When that’s done we agree the price, which is based on size (so you get an idea from the prices in my shop).

Tim wanted a charging Polar Bear

Agree the Commission

Most of my paintings are done in the classical tradition: drawing, block in, first painting, second painting. Some stages can take weeks to dry, but I’ll keep in touch with progress photos and updates (but patience is required).

Produce the Painting

Amanda wanted a nude with a feeling of Provence cool

If we both love the painting then the work is yours. I like to deliver personally but if that’s not convenient, I will arrange a courier.

Decision Day

Stuart wanted a ‘Grumpy Old Man’.. and he wanted it in charcoal!
